I spent two hours clearing the thistle from the lower half of Sidney’s old pen. I reached as far the valley oak on the edge of the goat enclosure. Thistle seems to enjoy growing under trees. I eradicated the thistle under this one tree, pruned the dead wood off the tree and applied a healthy dose of Roundup. Mike also noticed two trees just on the other side of the fence that appear to have died and may be candidates for firewood.
As Mike promised, the rebar posts came up easily with the tractor, and I removed the last of the fence panels. Running the heavy weed eater was nonetheless a challenge because the ground is uneven, perhaps more so from removing forty square feet of thistle. Running the tractor over that area may even it out.
